  1. this is the result of participating in global trade rather than seeking to be self sustaining. it may be more efficient to rely on others to do labor, but in reality every country should be able to support itself without trading with other countries, and only after a surplus of labor arrives should they participate in the global market. venezuela was overly reliant on oil, and failed to stockpile supplies necessary for self sustenance.
