Thank you for not erasing male victims. Its a lot easier to emphasize with people who emphasize with you.

12:50 He begins to actually address a fundamental problem on both sides, and is quickly interrupted. That is the exact OPPOSITE of what I expect from TED.

I agree with her at the end, they cut her then when she was starting to make a point. Cheating ends the "first marriage". She then asks if you would like to make a second one together. Many people would not.

writerconsidered and indoctrinate them into religion.... i would like to see a secular approach to addiction if it is going to be payed for with tax payer money in the united states. separation of church and state and all.
57
So her study shows that children have strong tribalism.

I support the basis that the government has no business watching you so closely that it would notice if you were pregnant or if you had an abortion. But if it can. Well we were protecting each other's freedom up until we weren't.
41
There is a general attack on beauty going on for the last ten years.
33
3:06 She is a researcher at MIT. She is in a STEM field, she does REAL science. Take a note feminist audience of TED. She should be a shining example of what you should strive to be like. She is competing with men in a male dominated field. Her arguments and ideas are based on logic rather than emotion. She is a female speaker, and the primarily male youtube audience has given her many more up votes than down votes. The men who watch youtube do not hate women, they hate YOU.

Am not scared, don't really care too much. The biggest worry I have with nuclear weapons isn't dying, its surviving with cancer.

I don't want to choose between owning a house or being able to live anywhere in the world. Owning a house is a good first step to being able to travel anywhere around the world. Its useful for leverage on loans in an emergency, it can be rented out for income to support you while overseas, etc. If you want to live anywhere in the world, I recommend that you get a house and contract a good rental company.
27
Life is not worth sustaining indefinitely unless youth can be preserved with it.
25
The old Colonial laws are still pushed in trade laws. Western Humanitarianism is the new version of it, while they pretend not to be the same old thing. These are racist cultural attacks.
24
He reminds me of an SJW, except he said that we all have responsibility, and that we all need to work towards educating ourselves so that we can understand better. This is the very first time I agreed with someone who strikes me as a social justice warrior.
20
I need to seek asylum from being a capitalist wage slave. Where do I go to escape Capitalist authoritarianism?

a lot of people who are worried about criminals need to understand one simple yet important fact. the majority of people are good. only 4% of the population is made up of psychopaths and sociopaths. most criminals are either backed into a corner where they see few options, or the crime they are doing doesn't have an obvious distressful victim. 96% of people are motivated to do something or refrain from doing something when they see someone in distress, they empathize with the people they see and try to relieve the distress. MOST people do that, and can be depended on to do that, even when it is an anonymous person. a very tiny percentage of the population is made up of people who do and cannot empathize with others, those who do empathize with others naturally band together to confront those who do. the tiny percentage that can harm others with no negative effect on themselves are very good at making huge economic gains for businesses. many of the corporate leaders and political leaders that demonstrate these behaviors are condemned and shunned by those who know of their exploits. the dark net puts the 96% of ethical people in control, the regulated market keeps the 4% of unethical people in control. which would you prefer?
17
@srivarenya862 Yes. My phone hates me...
17
Shame on this guy for pushing globalist agendas on countries that are under invasion.
17
I prefer the years of life before fourty five than the ones after.
17
I don't share his hopes for the future.
16
mens rights supporter speaking up. this girl is a good speaker, and this is an inspirational story. her story speaks for itself with no claim of priority over others. this is a great presentation and a plea for help that everyone can respect and that causes no infighting between people of egalitarian nation. girls issues are important and should be addressed. the most horrendous abuses to girls are done outside of western country borders.
15
This is just a bunch of mansplaining. Where is the female representation? Misogyny all around here.
15
feminists only want equality with the males that have it best, they want nothing to do with having equality with the males that have it worst. but cherry picking is not equality. what are feminists doing to create conditions to make more women commit suicide? what are feminists doing to increase the incarceration rates and prison sentences of women? what are feminists doing to get female genital mutilation legalized (aka: female circumcision)? what are feminists doing to get more women to die at work? no feminists don't want equality. they want all of the good things, and none of the bad things. they want the pay but they don't want the work. i'm not saying women don't have problems that men don't have. a lot of these are caused because men and women have inherently different mating strategies. promoting the female mating strategy over the male mating strategy is not equality, it is superiority. the natural state (no controls over sexual strategy) is the base state of equality in that regard.
14
Feeling of safety are delusion. People will do what people do. If you want to feel safe, you should try not to provoke people into attacking you, you should try to make the world a comfortable and livable place for other people. Because ultimately just about any type of weapon could kill you. Its the person using that weapon that you have to fear, not the weapon itself.
14
Bree Evans I used to think that way. That the radicals were not real feminists. But then I started noticing which policies actually end up being represented by government, as in laws, and I realized that the radicals were the ones that were actually effective in bringing about change. They are the real feminists, they are the ones who get laws changed and policies written that attack men. Real feminists are not egalitarians anymore. Egalitarians are egalitarians, and they most definitely are not feminists.
13
I am too literal to appreciate this. I hope it is moving for people. My favorite cup of soup is not the most popular, so when things don't appeal to me, it often means that they appeal to many other people instead.
13
The burning world IS art, and it is beautiful.
13
not going to lie. with the way that governments have been overreaching lately and ignoring constitutional rights and laws that protect people's privacy, i am scared of the misuse of this technology. i look forward to how this can help humanity, but i fear how this can be used to strip the autonomy from humanity. technology is a double edged sword. the unibomber noted that technology is used to create prisoners of citizens, to make slaves of free men. but at the same time we can see how technology improves the lives of those it aids. i am hopeful for humanity, i fear for humanity. fear and hope, bound together in the apprehension of how people will choose to use this.
12
writerconsidered yup, i would like to see social control mechanisms fall more in line with how people naturally act. this was a great talk.
11
@KarmaPolice42_28 You are right, free speech includes being a hateful troll and so much more.
11
We already crossed it, anything that was going to happen when we hit it happened last summer.

2:36 "The fact that someone who wasn't me was putting limitations on my dreams and ambitions was preposterous, and unacceptable". I couldn't agree with you more. This is why I hate modern day feminists. They have become the authoritarians that the previous generations of feminists fought against. Its one thing to support one persons dreams, and entirely another to oppose another person's dreams. Its ok to support women, it is NOT ok to attack men.

Woman made climate change is caused by overconsumption. When you buy something it creates economic demand to create that thing you bought. Oil is used to gather the raw goods, then to transport them to a factory, then to manufacture them into a product, then to ship them to you. There is a whole lot more oil used within that chain going from this place to that place along the steps of manufacturing. Women make up 80 to 85% of the consumer market. Society is built around supplying women with what they consume, and the women are overconsuming. It may be rather obvious that the speaker overconsumes, but also having a dozen pairs of shoes is unnecessary and is overconsumption. If society wants to fight climate change, than it needs to embrace minimalism. This starts with stopping people from overconsuming. But make no mistake, women will be most effected. They are the privileged over-consumers.

There is a drastic difference between a woman who is educated from a village in some developing nation that looks down upon women going to school and a western woman educated in a western university. The former had to overcome challenges, display personal resilience, discipline, and face and overcome adversity. The latter has everything handed to her on a silver platter complete with scholarships and lower bars of entry all attached to an unreasonable amount of debt (in the USA). This is why a much higher percentage of women who graduate in India have STEM degrees than their western counterparts. This is why women who graduate in India are competent by the time they have a degree.

She makes a valid point. Support the straight white men at your work. They have an uphill battle against diversity hires and systemic discrimimation. They are discriminated against because of thier race, gender and sexual orientation.
10
O:54 "it was only the men". I wish people would stop telling this lie. It was the gold people, including men and women. The lowest gold woman was still above the highest silver person, man or woman. The lowest silver person can't vote but is still above the highest copper person. Go look at rich women in India. Compare them to poor men. That is the truth, divide people by rich and poor, not men and women, to see the simple truth.

How? So many countries say they won't let Americans (includes me). I have a mediocre income and can't afford big bribes.
9
There are more people than there are opportunities. Not everyone can do it.

GuyWithAnAmazingHat the problem is that our brain competes with itself, and the algorithms do not. the big impact here is by the lymbic system and by hormones. they effectively increase or decrease specific target neural tissue groups from firing or not firing. in the end it is still binary (action potential or lack thereof). but the process that determines it is very much determined by a lot more connections and interactions that are able to be replicated by computers anytime soon (in the next 40 years). current deep learning takes millions (and sometimes billions) of computers working together. the human brain's decision making process is a competition between immense numbers of complex, competing neurons not just in the brain but in all parts of the body. (touching that burner or getting hungry have massive impacts on your decisions). we also have hundreds of millions of years of evolutionary hard wiring built into our decision making process (much more than just neurons and neural connections, also includes all the chemical operations impacting these neurons from other parts of the body). the computers have no such hard wiring, do not have limbic systems (are incapable of emotion and treat memory in a fundamentally different way) one day in the future perhaps a computer will be able to replicate a human brain. but it will just be one of many other tasks that computer could do. by the time computers "catch up" to humans, they will already be superior because they will be able to do more than "just" what a human could do. they can't be compared. they will look very different from each other when they are capable of executing the same number of tasks. and the tasks they can perform may have some overlap but will not be identical.

A whole lot of assumptions made in this video
8
#metoo , I also was kind of expecting the typical verbal abuse given out by feminists but was pleasantly surprised when she didn't frame all men as evil.
8
I agree with her. Where is the other side of the debate on TED? All I ever see is socialist reconstructionists and advocates for speech and debates with a complete absence of all the debate sides against the socialists.
8
I too dream big, don't accept limitations and want to break down barriers.

i think a lot of people hit dislike and left without listening. the title is misleading, and could be accurately described as ragebait. it would be comparable to a guy giving a speech on the dangers faced by children raised by single parents who is calm and level headed, but the title of the video is "single feminist mothers more likely to kill their children". you might expect a certain amount of feminists to vote the video down without listening to it. a lot of people who discuss this type of issue advocate censorship of the internet. look around at the comments. you will see people defending against censorship of the internet. yet she didn't advocate for censorship of the internet. the reason for this is that a lot of people do advocate for censorship of the internet. and they do so under the guise of protecting female victims. the title of this video makes it sound like the video is another attempt at censoring people. at the end of the day censorship is worse than rape. rape victims are effectively censored in some islamic countries. they are censored, because if they speak up about their rape, they face punishment. this censorship makes it impossible for them to seek help, and is worse than the original rape itself. the rape is a one off, the censorship ensures that the woman never recovers.
7
this is of great interest to me. i hope they teach students about this woman in the future. this is a major breakthrough in science, its impact may be on par with the discovery of germ theory of disease, and the dispelling of the old theory of abiogenesis (the old model not the RNA world hypothesis). this may have more a more meaningful impact on the future of humans than the last 100,000 years (or more) of evolution. it also might be the key to allowing humans to survive and reproduce in the microgravity of outer space, allowing humans to travel to other stars in the future. people get mad when feminists are down voted on TED. well look at this feminists, this is a woman who has done more than most men will ever do in their entire lifetime. this woman has made a major contribution to humanity as a whole. i don't think women are powerless, i just don't respect talks about feminism when instead time could be devoted to stuff like this. this woman is admirable, actually i think admirable is an understatement, i don't have good words to describe this. she is someone we should all look up to and respect.
7
+clearly_blurry not really, it is very rare that a woman can get a man 10 years her junior or more. not so rare for men. men are attracted to physical beauty like women are attracted to men who can provide resources.
7
You are a person of less value because you cannot embrace what you are. If you wish to be the lead, be pretty in other people's eyes, not your own.
7
I am abnormal and I feel no shame for it. Society at large is mostly made up of idiots. Why should I care what they think?
7
@Ananaspomidorka how many cell phones are sitting in dumps right now in the US? lets face it, older cell phones have even more rare earth metals than new ones. Time to start recycling.
7
Barbie and Lego is misleading. Doll and toy truck very much do have gendered differences that are well documented.
7
That is the tactic I have used to not get a divorce, and it worked for me! A government contract is not the best way to show your love, I know a couple who has been together for over 40 years before they finally got married, and even then it was a ceremony without government paperwork, a get together of all their friends and family who have known them forever. I honestly think they are happier together without the government holding a threat over their heads.
