  1. we need enough freedom for people of many different beliefs to be free to pursue their own form of happiness. religious dogma precludes people from pursuing certain paths of happiness. western secular humanitarianism has a dogmatic code that could be thought of as religious in nature. forcing western values on countries like saudi arabia is no better than muslim fundamentalists flying planes into western buildings.

  2. i strongly agree about having strong encryption. but there are weaknesses in many forms of encryption now. sadly we will have to go to ~4000 bit encryption soon enough, which is not easy to do. if we had a distributed network with ubiquitous strong encryption than they would be very hard to censor and monitor. this would provide much stronger free speech, but within that free speech would be speech deemed illegal by various countries. you can't fight for real free speech without fighting for the types of speech that you are adamantly opposed to the content of that speech.
