  1. Thorium is powered by plutonium. Thorium itself isn't the problem. Don't be fooled into believing that uranium that hasn't been converted into plutonium is used to enrich the thorium. Anyhow it's very easy to process the thorium salt to remove the weapons grade plutonium that is powering it all.
