@grmpEqweer I agree with you about the most effective way to encourage most Americans (people in South America would call us North Americans) to eat less meat or none at all is by pointing out the health aspects. I might not have switched to a purely plant based diet if I hadn't had a health scare which prompted me to research how to tip the odds in my favor between a series of tests for a possible cancer diagnosis. I live in the USA, and was raised to think that eating meat was needed to thrive. I learned that vegans have lower rates of ischemic heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, and multiple types of cancer.
I switched to a mostly plant based diet at that point. When the tests proved negative, I stayed on the diet for the health benefits, and because I felt more energy. I then did some more research as to why others go pure vegan, and realized that it was the only ethical choice for our environment, and for animal welfare. When I cut out the last of the animals from my diet, I felt fewer backaches, and joint pain caused by eating animals. Many plant based athletes have found that they recover quicker from hard workouts on a plant based diet. I have too. I don't get sore muscles anymore after a hard workout. I'm in my mid 60's and need no meds. I love to exercise including hiking, chin ups, and Freestyle Frisbee. Both of my living siblings have some combination of heart disease, diabetes, or cancer. I have never had those health problems.
