  1. American born, we visited my mother's village. I bought a cabbie some coffee and he warned about the match makers and families talking to my parents. We listened from the courtyard: 888,888RMB ($120,000US), houses, cars, gold jewelry, wedding costs... etc. This is crazy, I hadn't met the girls yet. I lived with my parents (actually owned the house together), job as a computer engineer, had 2 cars, stocks and gold investments. My parents only said I lived with them and was a computer engineer. They looked at me (I just listened): not tall enough, not handsome, dressed poorly (no suit), look dumb... etc. So being pre-judged for not meeting their standards they raised the prices. Ha, ha... after I was married, we when back and shocked the whole village.
