Born in America I went with my parents to visit their village. Match makers were frantically pressuring my parents to get me married. We were called "金 山 客", so the dowries and demands got crazy. I met the village cabbie, bought him coffee and went back to the courtyard. I said "Yes" and handed a mother a $2.00 bill. That started a riot. Never heard so much cussing and screaming. The cabbie quickly drove us away and my parents were crying from laughing so hard. He had dinner with us and said nobody ever did that before!!.

@4evertrue830 I understand the custom, but requiring houses, cars, money and large dowries got to be too ridicules. Coming from America (Golden Mountain) doesn't mean that everyone is rich. Visiting doesn't mean getting married, but showing 5 or 6 girls, giving conditions to marry them was not properly handled by the match makers or those families. Giving a US 2 dollar bill for a girl was my joke. I guess they don't have a sense of humor.

@haroondaman7162 Apparently you are not Asian or don't understand Chinese culture or customs. I traveled with my parents to visit their village in China. Matchmakers with the families tried to get me married with conditions of a house, cars, gold jewelry, wedding expenses and dowries upwards of $888,000 to marry a girl. The US$2.00 was what I offered to pay for everything and a girl!! The cabbie (which I befriended) got us out before we got beaten-up. In America, $2 would be laughed off as a joke and not taken seriously.

@vern0018 Basically, I feel it's not proper or correct to ask for material things and money before even going out on a first date. I could have ended up in this same situation on my wedding day with demands for more money. I pulled the stunt and got my parents out of making any promises or mistakes. The cabbie warned me about previous bad weddings in the village.
