The United Kingdom aerospace manufacturer known as "Rolls-Royce" makes jet engines power many planes, such as the Airbus A380, Airbus A350 and likely China's upcoming plane: the Comac C929. Though the American companies like General Electric and Pratt & Whitney also make popular jet engines.

@TheFreshSpam TSMC and Samsung are ahead of Intel in manufacturing. Especially TSMC. Due to the semiconductor shortage Intel can still sell their inferior chips at a decent premium. The have plenty of cash on hand and might still might come back if new CEO Pat Gelsinger can get their house in order. It's not clear whether he'll succeed. These days most would take an AMD design (manufactured in an TSMC fab) over an Intel design (manufactured in an Intel fab).

Intel absolutely dominated high-end semiconductors from like, 1950-2010. With the notable exception of memory chips, which Japan dominated in the 1980s.

Everyone operating razor thin margins to gain market share because there are big economies of scale if you dominate the industry. Everyone likes to manufacture on the leading edge node, if possible.
