She wrote: "Fox persuasively argues, that given Mr. Carlson's reputation, any reasonable viewer 'arrive[s] with an appropriate amount of skepticism' about the statement he makes."
Vyskocil, an appointee of Trump's, added, "Whether the Court frames Mr. Carlson's statements as 'exaggeration,' 'non-literal commentary,' or simply bloviating for his audience, the conclusion remains the same — the statements are not actionable." [ie are LIES]
Vyskocil's ruling last week, dismissing a slander lawsuit filed against Carlson, was a win for Fox, First Amendment principles and the media more generally, as Fox News itself maintains. As a legal matter, the judge ruled that Karen McDougal, the woman suing Carlson, failed to surmount the challenge.”

@gulshanaraharoon2198 Because we live in hope that the people who actually believe in what they’re getting into, and who truly want to make a positive difference for the people, not just themselves & their families, might rise in politics & become a leader we can respect for once. I read a lot of novels & read one recently where to become a leader your knowledge, skills, decision-making ability & true motivations were tested before you could assume the role. I wish we had a system like that. Imagine actually having a leader we could admire, respect & have faith in 🤷♀️ Instead we have cutthroat politics that is based more on cutting down & sabotaging the reputation of the opposition, instead of running on strong policies & merits. But I must say objectively, what I’ve seen of the American Republican Party over the last 7 years leads me to think they’re one of the most corrupt, shallow, greedy, fickle parties in all western politics!

Just a little FYI - The Haitian migrants In Springfield ARE THERE LEGALLY! They were INVITED to help boost the businesses & economy of Springfield. “Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine offered one of the most vociferous defenses of Haitian immigrants in Springfield yet from a Republican.
DeWine repeatedly noted that the immigrants are in Ohio legally and praised their work ethic, stridently swatting away claims that they are eating neighbors' pets -- unsubstantiated conspiracy theories promoted by Trump and his allies.
"I think it's unfortunate that this came up. Let me tell you what we do know, though. What we know is that the Haitians who are in Springfield are legal. They came to Springfield to work. Ohio is on the move, and Springfield has really made a great resurgence with a lot of companies coming in. These Haitians came in to work for these companies," DeWine said.
"What the companies tell us is that they are very good workers. They're very happy to have them there, and frankly, that's helped the economy.
Conspiracy theories about the immigrants spread online have made their way to national politics, breaking through when Trump claimed in his debate with Democratic opponent Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday that Haitians in Springfield were eating neighbors' dogs and cats.
“Look, there’s a lot of garbage on the internet and, you know, this is a piece of garbage that was simply not true. There’s no evidence of this at all,” DeWine said on “This Week.”
The fallout spread beyond politics over the past week as bomb threats and other threats of violence were reported in Springfield -- prompting a strong rebuke from DeWine.
"There are hate groups coming into Springfield. We don't need these hate groups. I saw a piece of literature yesterday that the mayor told me about from purportedly the KKK. Look, Springfield is a good city. They are good people. They are welcoming people. We have challenges every day. We are working on those challenges," DeWine said.
"This idea that we have hate groups coming in, this discussion just has to stop. We need to focus on moving forward and not dogs and cats being eaten. It's just ridiculous," he added.
DeWine last week announced the state would send more resources to Springfield. His office said local primary caregivers have been impacted due to an increased number of patients and lack of translation services. DeWine has authorized $2.5 million to go toward expanding primary care access for the city of Springfield, while calling for more federal help.
"Look, there's these are legitimate problems that we have on the border. I'm not minimizing that at all. And those are legitimate arguments where the vast majority the American people agree with Donald Trump, and not the vice president, [Kamala Harris]," he added. "But what's going on in Springfield is just fundamentally different. These people are here legally. They came to work”

This study examined the labor market effects of Secure Communities (SC), a police-based immigration enforcement policy implemented in 2008–13. Using variation in implementation across local areas and over time, we find that SC decreased the employment of likely undocumented immigrants. These effects are driven not only by deportations but also by adjustments among immigrants who remain in the United States. Importantly, SC ALSO DECREASED the EMPLOYMENT and HOURLY WAGES of US-BORN INDIVIDUALS. We provide support for two mechanisms that could explain this decline in labor demand: an increase in labor costs that decreases job creation and a reduction in local consumption.

Peer-reviewed article National Trends in Infant Mortality in the US After Dobbs published in the Journal of American Medical Association Pediatrics, found since the US constitutional right to abortion was overturned in mid-2022, infant mortality has been higher than expected in the country every month.
It found the months after the Dobbs decision there was a 7 per cent absolute increase in infant mortality overall, about 247 more deaths than the prior periods.
It further found there was a 10 per cent increase in deaths for babies born with birth defects — about 204 more deaths.
"One reason is that individuals who are denied access to abortion services, even in cases where the pregnancy poses life-threatening risks, may experience higher rates of infant mortality," Dr Tessema said. "For instance, infants born with congenital heart conditions are more vulnerable to infections and other complications, which can contribute to higher mortality rates."
Another reason is that people who want induced abortions often have unplanned pregnancies, meaning they are less likely to receive adequate prenatal care. “This lack of care can lead to preventable complications, such as preterm births, which are significant risk factors for perinatal morbidity and mortality worldwide," he said.
A third reason, is women who have restricted access to healthcare services may face mental health issues during the prenatal and postpartum periods of pregnancy. "These mental health challenges can contribute to negative perinatal and neonatal outcomes, potentially leading to death within the first year after birth. "Psychological stress, in particular, may trigger a cascade of neuroendocrine changes that increase the risk of serious pregnancy complications, such as pre-eclampsia, further elevating the risk of infant mortality," he said.
A study published in the American Journal of Public Health in 2021, showed that states in the US with more restrictive abortion policies had more maternal deaths compared with states that had less restrictive abortion policies.
"In some circumstances, removal of legal abortion rights may trigger an increase of women to be involved in unsafe or illegal abortions which will endanger women's own lives," he said. Dr Tessema said later-term abortions can raise ethical concerns as the fetus is more developed and it can pose increased health risks for the woman. He said there is a higher likelihood of complications "like haemorrhage, infection, and injury to reproductive organs."
"As a result, many countries have legalised abortion services, particularly for early pregnancies."

Additionally, no exposure to a sick person was reported.
This followed 13 cases reported since April in 2024: four in dairy workers reported across three states (Texas, Michigan, and Colorado) and nine in poultry workers from two facilities in Colorado. An additional 13 cases of avian influenza A(H5) in dairy farm workers in California were also recently confirmed by CDC. A previous case of A(H5) was reported in Colorado in 2022. All of these human cases have been confirmed or are presumed to be associated with one particular genetic clade of the virus, clade 2.3.4.4b.
There continue to be human cases of avian influenza A(H5N1) reported sporadically in other countries. Historically, since 1997, there have been 935 cases reported from 24 countries, with a case fatality proportion of approximately 50%. Although no severe cases have been identified in the US to date, severe disease or critical illness, including with a fatal outcome, has been reported in other countries with A(H5N1) virus, clade 2.3.4.4b, infection. There have been 10 cases reported in Cambodia this year to date. These cases have occurred in rural villagers with direct and close unprotected exposure to backyard poultry that were sick or had died. Some of these cases experienced critical illness, and two died. These cases were associated with a different but related genetic clade of A(H5N1) virus, called 2.3.2.1c.
There was also a case reported earlier this year in Australia of a child who experienced critical illness but survived. The family had returned from travel to India, and the child’s illness was caused by infection with a different but related genetic clade of A(H5N1) virus called 2.3.2.1a that is circulating among poultry in India.

In a study of the labor market impact of more than 450,000 deportations between 2008 and 2013, the researchers found that scaling up enforcement did not improve the overall employment share and wages of US-born workers, rather it reduced them, particularly for low-skilled Americans.
Undocumented people often fill low-wage jobs that native-born workers won’t take, particularly in industries such as construction, agriculture, caregiving and service. There’s still time to replace Biden with a better nominee if necessary… I just don’t think they have one at this stage. There are some amazing Democrats who will make great POTUS’ but America isn’t ready for them yet because they’re either female or gay 🤷♀️ Really really sad but true. Pete Buttigieg, Alexandra Ocasio Cortez & Katie Porter (although she also desperately needs a stylist as Americans seem to expect a certain “look” from their Presidents!) are the 3 who spring to mind for me. All three are passionate, super intelligent, incisive, knowledgeable & decent people. Particularly Pete. I have no doubt he’d be a top candidate if enough Americans ever learnt to be tolerant. But maybe there’s a strategy here. Maybe the string pullers want Democrat/anti-Dump voters so concerned about Biden that they will support a gay/female POTUS as the only alternative against Dump. Because I can’t think of anyone else who is personable, appears trustworthy, is intelligent etc. But the Dems HAVE to ensure they win & don’t let Dump anywhere near the WH again! I really wish you could bring back Obama. Now HE was a good POTUS - intelligent, decent, witty, passionate, caring, inspiring, NOT a pathological liar, NOT a criminal …/sigh.

Importantly, SC ALSO DECREASED the EMPLOYMENT and HOURLY WAGES of US-BORN INDIVIDUALS. We provide support for two mechanisms that could explain this decline in labor demand: an increase in labor costs that decreases job creation and a reduction in local consumption.

They contribute to the economy by creating demand for goods and services such as cars, food and haircuts. In a study of the labor market impact of more than 450,000 deportations between 2008 and 2013, the researchers found that scaling up enforcement did not improve the overall employment share and wages of US-born workers, rather it reduced them, particularly for low-skilled Americans.
Undocumented people often fill low-wage jobs that native-born workers won’t take, particularly in industries such as construction, agriculture, caregiving and service. Fight back, but discreetly so you won’t be targeted. I suggest a guerrilla style campaign - sneaking out very early in the morning when most are sleeping to put black armbands & black scarves on statues, trees, light posts, signs etc to mourn the death of decency, of truth, of freedom, of equality & the American dream. Maybe add signs saying “Trump’s fault” 🤔 so he doesn’t try to pretend it was his idea to mourn the crash victims or something. And I also recommend buying, making, printing, painting etc a peach, or get a can of peaches, or even make a nice peach dessert. And deliver it en masse to your local representatives when they’re in the office. Put a sign on saying “Impeach Trump for Violating the Constitution” & #LadyLibertyWillNOTKneel
I know that he’s been impeached twice without removing him, but most Republicans must be sick to death of having to “kiss the ring” this time round. The other two always need donations of $ but also offer them time & whatever expertise you have to offer. Help them research, get the word out, offer time to do whatever they need. Even just support them as I’m sure they are working very long, hard hours particularly now. Good luck & remember you’re not alone! @jinstinky501 I called it 9 years ago! Not that that helps. But I’m an Aussie who paid very little attention to US politics until I heard some of Dump’s babble & could immediately see he was a massive danger to not just America but the entire world! And I truly believed Kamala & Walz would win because so many people had woken up to the danger. I didn’t count on the apathy & ignorance of tens of millions of US voters though I guess. Although I’m still sceptical he won legitimately. But anyway, it’s not just that he & his minions are literally dismantling American government daily, but that by threatening allies & to invade Greenland, Denmark, Panama & now Gaza, he’s going to single-handedly topple the world order & allow for China & Russia to swoop in, which will be even more DEVASTATING for the world! But, “I told you so” does nothing. Getting out there & protesting, putting black armbands on your statues, trees, light poles etc to mourn the death of American democracy & the American dream… delivering peach-based items en masse to your local politician (make sure they’re in office & you do it kindly, respectfully, peacefully & LEGALLY) and every other safe & peaceful legal way you can think of to protest - WILL help. The majority of Republicans must be sick of bowing down to a tyrant by now so if enough pressure is applied, they might actually stand up against him.
