Apart from the dodgy defence lawyers who probably get off on the power of getting a criminal off, apparently they get a sense of doing the right thing by ensuring that the criminal gets the best defence so they have no grounds for appeal or a mistrial. I don’t know how those people feel when their sick, evil client gets off.
