that's a falsehood. The government doesn't spend other people's money.

@jackkruese4258 I don't need Mr Murphy to tell me it. The evidence itself shows that the UK government spend bank reserves. The only source of bank reserves is the BoE. "Other people" cannot create bank reserves.

@jackkruese4258 Mainly inflation risk which needs considering.... plus if the government seeks to grow the economy then target spending towards something that will more likely result in growth.

@colinc8966 I don't know that it is a false one. Charlie Munger seems to be on the money with the notion that it is envy not greed that makes the world go around. There has never been as much wealth yet people seem more concerned with how they are relatively poorer than people they know than how well off they are compared to their ancestors.

All of the money is created (ie didn't "exist" previously). I do agree though that renting out houses causes problems.

@AppreciationClub24-n8e I would simply say that you shouldn't place trust in your leaders (as they cannot be trusted). We already have a system to depose them.

@lonevoice There has always been a succession of wars, different groups of humans do not get along any better than same of chimpanzees. if anything recent history is relatively peaceful. Granted the stakes are much higher now due to our technology and it was almost inevitable we would arrive at this scenario. I am sympathetic to the ideas of other forms of power structures, but human innate tendencies remains the driving force. Humans are rationalising whilst being simultaneously irrational.

@lonevoice human nature is innate, it's how we evolved as a species. Of course, we have more recently gone further and used our minds to develop ethical codes from ideas that help us navigate an environment we aren't well adapted to live in. This planet is infested with plague level proportions of our species and I do not see harmony resulting from it, only chaos management until something gives on population sizes.

@NoMoreVoxPops because those are innate human tendencies (ie behaviour). If you shuffled the pack and re-dealt the cards, the same situation will emerge. It isn't unique to the individuals in question who are the current "Have's"

@NoMoreVoxPops Probably something we observed following a period of calamity like WW2. A period of prosperity, seemingly more "fairness" that over time grotesque extremes emerge as those with better cards outplay others. It happens repeatedly throughout history.

@NoMoreVoxPops commiserations as I've had the gas valve go a couple weeks back and sat freezing for a couple days.... in the meantime from my perspective what we tend to call "morality" are sets of innate behavioural tendencies (such as empathy) that we discover via our feelings, these likely emerged via evolution as being part of a social species. They are near universal. However we are no longer in the environment that we are adapted to (savannah, small groups etc) and contend with living in very high densities coerced into working full time and competing for privatised resources against people we don't necessarily identify with. That is going to cause conflict in a species prone to violence.

I didn't know about the morning prayers, it's remarkable that in the modern era our leaders would appeal to YHWH for guidance. How would people feel if they instead appealed to Zalmoxis or Osiris?

@mishapurser4439 I have no problem with individuals believing things, but I'd prefer rituals or appeals to immortals kept out of office.

They were wrong, considering the evidence. Humans have caused a lot of harm and misery to countless numbers of their own species.

@indricotherium4802 I agree with that and would extend the argument the "those who play it down" could be swapped with "those who play it up" it depends on the cards you were dealt earlier. Humans are living in an environment they aren't adapted to and in conflict with innate behavioural tendencies.
