  1. My understanding is that the argument for higher rates is that savers have a lower propensity to spend than borrowers in an economy, hence it leads to lower demand. However, the evidence for that is quite lacking. No-one seems interested in challenging that assumption and its treated like a law of physics that higher rates lead to lower inflation.
