I would agree, but the reason they are being "sucked" into it is because the rewards are higher. Given the chance to solve real world problems or being a quants, they'll go for quants (obviously there will be exceptions). They are acting out of self interest.

The entire system is parasitical. If you have a job, you will be producing excess output beyond those of your own needs. That excess output will typically be distributed upwards to others who get a far bigger share of it than you do. Whether you are caring for people or working in the city, the same happens.

It's just the nature of money itself, the system is a giant board game. We didn't evolve to live like this but we didn't evolve to have full time jobs either.

@HighWealder Indeed.... and its based on luck not fairness.

@IanDavies-gy4mg we already have that, called stamp duty. If you trade more you pay more.

Sure but refuse collectors and care workers would probably resign and take up a high paid city job given the chance (though there will be exceptions). They aren't typically emptying bins etc because they want to spend their lives doing so.

@Thisisahandle701 What is "we"? It's a group of individuals who don't want to empty bins themselves, but expect others to do it for them... then give themselves a pat on the back about those coerced into it doing a "valuable service to society". The person doing the emptying would likely jump at the chance working in forex.

@Thisisahandle701 The "we" is already free to pay those who do such roles much higher rewards.

@markwelch3564 I'm not suggesting we do, but we are all free to apply for the job.... yet individually we all want other people to apply for it instead while we have a "better" one.

@Thisisahandle701 I wouldn't know specifically, but I would expect that the elite are able to pay for their kids to go to private schools, end up with connections and better exam results (due to the resources at the school), then get the job that a person like me who went to a comprehensive was far less likely to get. It's an unfair world based on luck. Everyone who comes into this world has to deal with the hand they have.

@markwelch3564 neither am I.... but I did things I'd rather not out of necessity not out of choice. I'd imagine the same is true of yourself which is why your no longer doing it. edit... and the "necessity" ultimately stems from coercion.

@markwelch3564 I've had similar.... and enjoyed the variety of not being locked in a building. I left them for more money sometimes into roles I didn't enjoy. Ultimately I bailed out of the entire game so I don't have to work, bin man or otherwise. We didn't evolve to have jobs in the sense they exist today.

@ConstructiveMinds100 "what did you add that we know.?" Not sure what the question is?

@settheshallow8913 "not that much opportunity to solve real world issues" if by that you mean there is an oversupply of highly trained people for available jobs then I would agree. That's a failure of the government to create an environment where more people with ideas are encouraged to take risks, start businesses, obtain capital etc
