it late i need sleep, but im going to write this comment or so god help me
the inuit (likely not all, idk) ate a diet of just meat, Vilhjalmur Stefansson wrote his book the fat of the land on this and i havent read the books but i have read up on it and on vilhjalms travels in the arctic, the inuit of the time are often described to be healthy and fit (sadly not true today because of the drastic shift to modern foods so far north) so they would get their vitamins and such by also eating the organs because thats where it was all stored
they also ate plenty of fish but im not sure how much of their diet that consisted of, certainly seal would have been big, i dont know when they started hunting whales
the viking age scandinavians however as far as i know from my research which i dont remember any of my sources for except for a short paper about diet differences between rural and populated places in denmark
you know what, i have just spent 20 minutes tying to find that paper, this is taking to long, i need sleep, maybe tomorrow i will come back and to a follow up where i finish, goodnight

unless he means that at some point it may have meant or been used in that context, in which im intrigued
viking has meant many things
in heroic age scandinavia 400-700 AD then based on texts and stories from the time we estimate that it meant pirate, as in someone is a pirate, its what they are, they live and sleep as a pirate
in viking age scandinavia 700-1200 AD the texts portray it closer to an action, you could go on viking, you wouldn be a pirate, you would go and do pirating, not to say pirates didnt do pirating, but in the viking age people who went viking once would continue their lives normaly and not be called vikings
now in out age Ca. 2000 AD we use it to refer to any scandinavians in the viking age, this is heavily debated and i agree that it would be nicer if we used the word in the same way it was used in the viking age because that would remove a lot of confusion, but its already to late to change the meaning of the word
