People aren't calculating their speed based on some formula off what the sign says, they're driving the way they do because 1) those long/sweeping roads were designed for motorist convenience and 2) police are never around to enforce safer driving behavior. This is further compounded by the fact that everyone has to drive 15-30 minutes to get anywhere in the Triangle.
