Socotra in Yemen is probably like that as well? But yeah, I did not know about the ABC islands and surroundings being this arid
3
@mushroomsteve that is a fun trivia fact for sure
2
it's always crazy just how far Vikings have gone in just about any direction in the world. Then again, I feel like a lot of seafaring people have, such as the Polynesians, or e.g. how Berber Corsairs raided as far north as Ireland and Iceland
2
the Siberia temperature chart did use Fahrenheit. It felt like it's just assumed that the watcher knows both systems, but indeed, that's usually not the case, SI/metric is much more understood worldwide
2
how is "Constantinople" an example of it? It was literally called that (well, the Turkish version, Kostantiniyye) rather than Istanbul for most of the time it was controlled by the Turks, the name change is pretty recent. I think you're reading too much into it

demonstratively rolls eyes

@r.yuksel9774 it was a surface overview. It wasn't much of a deep dive. I think you're reading too much into it through your own biases. If this was a deep dive into the regions' history then I'd get it, but it was really just interesting tidbits

I mean, to me it was clear it's just a bit of a surface overview. History isn't this channel's specialty, geography is
1
@kutukteyiz408 yep, just checked out of curiosity since it seems to be a recurring debate, and Turkey does have semi-arid regions which have certain desert-like characteristics but no deserts
1
@Fractured_Unity yeah spot on. Same is true in Europe, you wouldn't usually think of Iran's geography at all, as an average person. I've never once heard it be called a "flat desertland". I think anyone interested enough in its geography would see that there's a lot of mountains. But certainly would still be thought of as arid

@BananaBlooD9517 I mean, I don't know what kind of "people from Europe" you're talking about, I assume southern? I live in Belgium and I'm about the same as you. ~23 or so is the best temperature, above that it is too hot, and I generally never see the need for winter coats (in Belgium temperature barely even gets into the negatives at winter, it's really mild, and summers are also mild)
1
@liberalegypt purely coincidence. As it happens, it originated in modern day Saudi Arabia, and there is many deserts around it. The world is chaotic and not everything has an interesting reason

Definitely want to use things I learn from Casual Earth to incorporate into my fantasy world-building so I'm sure I'll try to use this video too, haha
