Same here. IMHO anyone who needs to spread ads has a bad product. Good things sell without ads, and I never bought stuff after seeing ads specifically. They might have generated interest (read: they make me aware that something does exist), but I always base my decision to buy something upon proper reviews and/or trying it out myself unless it's some cheap stuff that I don't care if it had me waste a small amount of cash. And there certainly are ads that just make me stay at a decent distance...

Absolutely nailed it. Needless to say the ads usually are like 10x louder than regular content, and sometimes they would even go off in "inactive" tabs that have scripts to reload the ad stuff after a given amount of time. That and the vast and utter mass of malware hidden in them are the main reasons I use uBlock Origin. Another is just saving lots, and I mean LOTS of loading time and even data traffic on mobile. I don't pay my carrier a fortune per month for a gig or two just to have that drained by a truckload of ads I don't care about. As for YouTube, some uploaders know how to exaggerate with what feels like a thousand pieces of midrolls. Not exactly my taste of tea. Too bad I can't set rules for individual channels that I would totally support by letting the ads play. Some of them that I watch a lot and I know they need the cash get a few bucks per Patreon though as a fair compensation (and actually that's a LOT more than the adsense revenue). I used to recommend using AdBlock basically everywhere for quite a while - in order to support some content creators indirectly, I don't do that anymore. If someone is nagging about the ads I tell them they could get YT Premium to get rid of that, but I won't mention a blocker anymore. I've considered doing that myself as well, but my income is extremely limited. I'd instantly do that if my situation would better though.

@existextinct Back in the day, I rooted my Galaxy S3 and installed back-to-n00t Kitkat (basically taken from the Note 2) on it and I had some ad blocking stuff on it that would block any ads that would pop up on the device. In other words: That does exist already, but usually requires rooting/jailbreaking your device. Best done after the natual warranty void. That just requires that you don't get a new device every year or two, depending on where you live... And actually being able to install ad blockers to Firefox on Android is reason enough for me not to use apps like YouTube - instead I fire up the browser and do it the same way as on the desktop :)
