  2. NATO-Russia Council needs to get back together. That thing alone is proof that NATO never had the objective to threaten Russia after the fall of the Warsaw Pact. Ideally NATO would be expanded further east by getting Russia in there as well, but the current situation doesn't make going that way easy at all. Sitting in a NATO country myself, that originally, before NATO existed was to blame for 2 World Wars (well, actually it's complicated regarding the first), for us it's a safety warrant not to get into intra-European conflicts again and I understand that as the main reason for the alliance to exist. And I absolutely can't blame any country seeking that collective shelter that isn't under it yet. But no other country should be offended by that huge military alliance in front of their doorstep, just because it's a military alliance. I remember (basically from documentaries) that Putin even asked Clinton back in day if he could join NATO and Clinton just answered like "Well, just go apply, everyone can." and Putin kinda being offended by that respone because he didn't want to be treated like every other small country. I think both sides made a mistake there. Clinton could have invited Putin differently and Putin could just have taken the official way nevertheless. Too bad that didn't work out, we could have much better relationships if that would have gotten real.
