When Christianity spread north, south, east, and west - all respective societies depicted Jesus in art in accordance with their own race and culture. Coptic Christians from Africa depicted Jesus and the Madonna as dark-skinned; Chinese depicted Jesus as Asian looking; Native Americans depicted Jesus looking Native American, even wearing Native American garb; and Europeans depicted Jesus as a white European. You can look these up easily on any search engine. YouTube won't allow me to post links - every time I try, they delete my messages.
Several hundred years ago, a ship sank off the shores of southern Italy in the town where I used to live (where my parents are from). It came from Africa and among the items recovered from that wreckage was a painting of Madonna and child. The Madonna and child are dark-skinned. She is referred to by the locals in my home town as the black Madonna and the painting has been on display in the main Cathedral since then.
The overarching and most important truth is that Jesus was not white, Asian, black, or Native American - he was a Jew. Dark-skinned - not black, not white, not asian, native etc. He was born a Jew and died a Jew.
