If the UK returns the diamond to India it would necessarily need to be in the form of a gift to India and only if the UK wishes to return it. The Indian Supreme Court ruled in 2017 that it cannot pass an order to reclaim the Kohinoor diamond from the UK because the diamond was neither "forcibly taken" nor "stolen" by British rulers - but was given to the East India Company by the rulers of Punjab. The legal case to overturn the 2017 ruling was struck down by the Indian Supreme Court two years later in 2019. Would it be nice if Britain returned it? Yeah, but like I said it would have to be in the form of a gift IF the UK desires to - because as of now Britain rightfully owns the diamond.

@youtcomment I really couldn't care less. I'm neither Indian nor British. I just wrote what I wrote because you are all wasting your time and breath - you need to take it up with the INDIAN SUPREME COURT. They are the ones who ruled TWICE - in 2017 and again in 2019 - that the diamond cannot be returned since the Brits neither forcibly took it nor looted it. It was given to them as a gift - maybe reluctantly, but nonetheless legally.
