  1. Yup - that's presentism and sadly there are some historians who cave in to it. I'm a medievalist historian fighting to wrest the history of the medieval female mystics back from the feminists who have put a very popular, modern spin on medieval behavior as if medieval people shared our modern-day code of ethics. Nothing can be more irritating - not to mention ignorant.

  3. In Italy (at least southern Italy, where I'm from) they still make onion pie, although a much more simplified version - and with green onions. They cook green onions in olive oil with calamata olives and a few cherry tomatoes - not sure if they include garlic and white onions, but then they put this in a covered pie crust. Sooooooo good!!!!
