John Cleese is well past his prime. The idea that democracy is noble and our leaders tell the truth ended with WWI when the political elite were exposed for being incompetent hypocrites. It was briefly renewed after WWII and died again during the Cold War and Vietnam. Now nobody is stupid enough to think anyone in power is telling the truth about anything.
