  4. Instead of investing in childminders, the government should be paying women (or one of the parents but women do tend to be better at the job) to stay home and look after their own children. It would save so many issues further down the line.

The working class grandma gets lumbered because the working class mum cannot afford to stay home and the working class kid misses out. Admittedly the working class kid often misses out but this way three generations are disadvantaged.

  6.  @williamvorkosigan5151  let’s not forget that the reason most married women work is because the standard of living these days is such that it cannot be supported on a single wage. Removing women from the labour market with no income whatsoever will simply result in a fall in demand leading to a fall in manufacturing leading to closures leading to higher prices and falling standards of living. Great idea 👍

  18. On which point can I remind anyone with savings to check their monthly interest before the taxman does it for them. Now that savings are no longer taxed at source savers are now responsible for keeping an eye on their interest. Standard rate tax payers can earn £1000 before they become liable.
