That is the wrong question, the fact is trillions of dollars was stolen from one group and used to benefit others, that benefit has been compounded over the years, that makes the others accessories to a crime against humanity. It is way past time for restitution.

And the benefits from slavery did not end in 1865, there are people and companies around today that directly benefited from slavery; for example there are 90 million americans whose CURRENT family wealth can be traced to thre Homestead Acts, Acts which excluded almost ALL black folk. Additionally the discrimination did not stop there - My father was not allowed in 1940s Arkansas to use his GI Bill. I was not allowed to use FHA because of redlining. Its not just about slavery, its about every travesty visited on black folk because of race. My uncle as a young boy was burned out of Tulsa.They were lucky to be taken in by a nearby by idigenous reservation. It is way past time for the usa to make amends just like we rightly have to other groups.

Oh by the way, the last case of slavery was adjudicated in the 1940s, when peonage was designated as slavery, so since there were still peons there wwere still slaves in the 40s. And actually, convict leasing was a brutal form of labor contracting that almost mirrored slavery and provided over 20% of many Sothern states' budgets.

@anonamous6968 Todays citizens are acessories to this country's benefits and misconduct. I steal money and pass it to strangers even years later, they are still on the hook to return it. The problem with your argument is that institutional racism and the harm it creates continues to this day. The losses as a result ofinstitutional bias are still compounding. Reparations started i 1865 and were stopped with Lincoln's assassination. Time to pay up. Native americans started receiving reparations in 1980s, Time to pay up. Americans sending billions to Ukraine, and rightly som but Americans did not bomb their city. Here Americans did cause the harm, and the majority community continues to benefit.

My grand uncle and aunt were slaves. I lived with them. And, the last slavery case was prosecuted in the 1940s. However slavery was the worse offense but not the only one, discrimination and bias have also been devastating, and they still exist even after 400 years.

So whites enslaved need to sue them or their decendants for reparations, my descendants did not enslave them. I did not benefit from egyptian slavery. Everyone non descendant of an enslaved person in the usa benefitted from slavery and discrimination in all its forms for the last 400 years of this country; and indigenous claims go back further than that.

@twelvestitches984 oh please there are white people in canada, but they don't owe descendents of american slaves restitution because they had nothing to do with enslaving black people in the usa. So slavery in north africa is not my concern, the descendents need to press their case in north africa.
