russia: "If you help Ukraine we will cut off your precious energy..." EU: "We have cut ourselves off, found alternative suppliers, and price-capped your sales to the rest of the world instead. Shrug."

russia's biggest problem is their leader has absolute power and yet is an incompetent oaf.

@thesage4729 You really should check your figures. The EU market they had is vastly bigger than what you listed above. And if you do not believe me check the damn figures published by russia for their budget for Jan 23. Their revenue from fossil fuel exports is down over 50% on same period last year. And about to get a lot worse as the 2nd ban/cap (on refined energy products) hit only this month so has not had any affect yet. China + India + etc do not buy refined products from russia and have no interest nor capability in doing so. Basically you are talking nonsense, but feel free to show me where you got your info, I'd be genuinely curious.

@td.adigee That must be why they just reduced production by 5% (10k oil wells shut). Yes they are selling more than they did to those markets (China and India are very happy to exploit russia while they can), but even with that taken in to account those markets as less than 30% of the size the EU market they had was. Plus, just look at the price China and India are paying, it's way below price cap but russia cannot say no as it is now desperate to sell, even with the huge additional cost of shipping it to those places that russia did not have with the EU market.

@Guitar6ty There's a huge difference in the gap between them. russia's situation is catastophically worse due to the size of that gap.
7
@ll_Taylor_ll Doesn't matter as long as russia is not profiting from it. In fact this is the ideal situation as it avoids global shortage while denying russia of income.
7
@td.adigee I was referring to the EU market russia was selling energy products to. The EU and its allies accounted for 85% of russia's total fossil fuels export market pre-war. And that is more or less all gone.
6
@ll_Taylor_ll lol, you are going to be as disappointed as putin
6
@HigherMorality Except none of that will happen. Either way can you imagine what the other choice (i.e. give in to russia's bullying) would have led us to? This is absolutely the right (and only) choice, regardless of the financial hardships that it may entail.
5
@ll_Taylor_ll What happens then? Pigs fly.
5
They brought this on themselves and they can end it any time they want. Let's not forget that.

The absolute biggest favour that putin has done the world is show beyond all doubt how toothless and weak his previously feared military is. NATO need never fear them again basically. In fact very few countries would fear them now. Thanks Vlad!

@valetudan234 Let's discuss the amounts each bought and how much each added to the russian economy. Let's also talk about India's total failure to condemn this barbaric invasion.

Except the world wont buy

@jennysue601 Same in UK.

There would be no war in Ukraine without India propping up the russian economy, so....

@Artman1 When you are a silly sausage who falls for russian propaganda, it probably is. Remember, russian propaganda, like the Jedi mind trick, only works on the weak-willed.
2
@yikwanwong8267 Totally agree. Some people seem to think that fossil fuels can be magically teleported to new places and that storage at the end point is available and infinite. China and India are basically exploiting the heck out of russia right now because they know russia has no choice but to be subservient to their demands and give them any kind of deal they ask for. With friends like these, who needs enemies? Newsflash Update: russia has just announced they are reducing their oil exports by ship by 650k barrels per day.

putin will go down in history as the stupidest world leader in modern history. And a naZi to boot. Nice legacy. The man who destroyed russia. He did more damage to his country than the West could ever have hoped to do. Here's the top 10 things russia has lost as a result of allowing their leader to make such idiotic decisions: 1) Large number of extremely significant international companies stopped doing business and moved out. They will never return. 2) Massive brain-drain of the country's most talented people (knock on effect of (1)) 3) Complete loss of international investment, likely never to return. Plus of course vast sums of their existing money seized and frozen in overseas banks, now to be used for reparations. 4) Complete loss of their EU fossil fuel market. Pre-war, 86% of russia's fossil fuel exports were going to EU and its allies, and that represents 64% of russia's total exports. Gone forever. 5) Mobilzation took 700k of the most productive people out of the economy when it could least afford to lose them. (About to be repeated?) 6) West can feel justified in continuing and increasing their sanctions, crippling the economy further. The longer the war goes on the tighter they can strangle. Even the Kremlin advisors stated it will take them 40+ years to get back to where they started economically. 7) Complete humiliation and loss of reputation of the previously feared Russian military. Now a laughing stock. 8) Complete loss of reputation for the country itself. Now thought of as the naZis of the modern era with their own modern-day Hitler; a reputation they will likely never lose. 9) NATO countries were galvanized and NATO came together in great strength and unity when they had kind of drifted apart. No one expected that. 10) Potentially multiple new countries applying to join NATO, most of them right on russia's border, united in their fear, distrust and out-right hatred of russia. Thanks putin, we could not have done it without you.

His stupidity and bad decisions are going to go down in history as the greatest blunders ever made. Think what russia threw away to have this war. It takes a special kind of stupid to do that.
1
russia starting to realise the world does not need them at all. I hope we learn from our mistakes this time, and keep them at arms' length hereafter.
