  1. I thought the movie was OK - not enough Harkonnens though. The story is a bit crappy (never read the book) and some of the characters a bit weak and undeveloped, but it looked great. Plot-wise, I didn't get why the Emperor didn't just govern Arrakis himself with his own people and armies, and reap all the profit and power. Why farm out to a powerful house that he has clear rivalry with? You can't argue it was a plot to weaken both Atriedes and Harkonnen houses because they mention that the Harkonnens governed the planet for many (was it 80?) years before year 10191. Surely if the Empire had held the planet for themselves they would have gathered so much wealth and power to be completely untouchable? Seemed a massive plot hole.
