Thanks for an interesting talk. I think the "soft" UK should learn (actually, relearn) some hard lessons from Asian countries. The deliberate UK government policy of running down manufacturing and technological industries (thanks, Thatcher!) has been disastrous. Fortunately, it seems that there are signs of a comeback in that respect. The pride engendered by producing excellent goods is terrific for national morale and maintenance of a pioneering spirit.
