They more or less made it work for Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, and various minor Tai-Kadai and Hmong languages. All very different from Chinese in their own ways (*). So why not Spanish? Cuneiform after all ended up being used for several different language isolates, several Semitic languages, several Indo-European languages, and several Hurro-Urartian languages (which were new to me). *) Okay, Korean and Japanese are structured very similarly (and may or may not be related -- nobody knows!).

Perhaps you could say something about why the Swedish troops were so much better than the other troops? And about how Sweden was able to field so many soldiers from such a small population? Something about the near universal ability to read amongst the Swedish solders due to almost two centuries of Protestantism, perhaps? And something about universal conscription? And the availability of locally mined metals and locally forested wood for the ships?
