  3. That “sovereign state” cannot dictate the terms of a trade agreement to the other 27+ parties to that agreement. It’s that simple. The UK can choose between a wide variety of possible trade agreements, ranging from WTO rules to a Norway-style quasi-EU-membership. All those options have always been available. What is not available is the best of everything as seen from the UK. If they want full access to the EU/EEA market, then they have to play by EU rules. It’s that simple.
