Remember that the kingdom of Hungary contained lots of land that wasn’t Hungarian in the slightest — such as the entire country of Slovakia. I’d say that the Treaty of Trianon might even have taken too little from Hungary.

Perhaps you should read up on China’s history? The real history, not that of the CCP or Chinese nationalists or western Communists. Europe did NOT plunder China’s resources. China was incredibly badly managed. Europe transferred lots of very useful tech to China. Europe also gave China better courts, more rule of law, better taxation, a postal service, access to world markets, better administration, railways, better roads, better ships, better houses, medicine that actually works, glass factories (that the Chinese elite smashed several times), etc.

We would do far better than we do now if we had less immigration (and if we had even mediocre quality control instead of the piss poor quality control we have now). I agree 100% with the others about nuclear energy. I also agree 100% with the guy who wrote that we have coal, oil, and gas ourselves that we choose not to use. I hate the “greens”.

It helps to have tame state media :( ARD and ZDF have always been strong backers of whoever was in charge in Berlin (but with a left-leaning bias). It’s a disgrace that the “greens” are seen as sensible and green good guys, instead of the friends of Russia that they really are and always have been.

@swinfeflue sure, there are lots of ethnic Hungarian enclaves outside of (modern) Hungary. Nobody is denying that. But remember that they are discontiguous and often have many non-Hungarians as well. You brought up Romania… should Siebenbürgen be German (or Austrian)?

@swinfeflue I am very much against the dismantling of Germany and Austria-Hungary after WW1 (and the stupid reparations that morally should have flowed in the other direction), but if Austria-Hungary were to be dismantled roughly along ethnic lines (which many of the inhabitants wanted) then the Treaty of Trianon wasn’t too bad. Exclaves far from the border (and inside other countries) are bad.

@alexpan7819 Russia has been holding a knife at our throats for more than a hundred years. Of course we would be happy to see Russia gone. That does not make us the bad guys — it is literally because Russia is bad and seems incapable of reform.

@johnmcmillion876 not as much as you think. West Germany’s economic rise out of the ashes owes (much) more to Ludwig Erhard’s reforms. France squandered the Marshall money so that didn’t help France much.

@johnmcmillion876 no, he would have gone a bit further. I think the Brits alone could have protected Belgium and the Netherlands and maybe a sliver of Germany. On the other hand, without massive US aid, Stalin wouldn’t have gone as far. In fact, he would probably have lost to Germany and the Soviet regime would have fallen. Germany wouldn’t have been able to hold much territory… and would likely have lost most of it quickly. Result: a weak Germany with no air defenses (= either soon defeated or suing for peace), no Soviet Union, no Mao, no Vietcong, no Kim Il-Sung, no Pol Pot. That support for the Soviet Union turned out to be very, very expensive.
