  1. That was actually one of the few times where the Soviet Union was on the less wrong side and the US on the more wrong side. Photos from Kabul from that era might convince you. Literacy statistics from that era might convince you. Growth statistics from that era might convince you. The treatment of women might convince you.

  3.  @davidford3115  supporting the USSR in WW2 was both incredibly dumb and incredibly evil, btw. The Communists were far worse than the Nazis… and those fuckers chose to teach them to build factories and chose to arm them. They killed far more than the Nazis ever did, they occupied half of Europe, they helped Mao win in China… But by the late 70’s, the Soviet Union was no longer the Soviet Union of Stalin, Lenin, and Beria. It was geriatric and sclerotic and everybody knew it.
