@kirkhustle3718 the stuff inside is electrically charged. That means it is affected by magnetic fields if it moves. We can use this to keep the hot (fast moving) stuff from touching the walls. A little bit will always touch the walls and cause some damage, but by controlling the magnetic field better and better, we can make less and less stuff touch the walls. That is pretty much all the preceding decades of research have been all about: controlling the magnetic field better, so less stuff touches the walls, so we can afford to make it go faster without causing too much damage. We still have some way to go before we can make it go fast enough, so that when different kinds of stuff hit each other and they fuse (and create heat), we can use that heat to create steam and power turbines with it… and then use those turbines to turn dynamos and create electricity. We want to create more electricity than we put in, but we are not there yet. It would be very nice if we could create electricity this way. That’s why there is a huge international, multi-decadal research collaboration going on called ITER. This Chinese experiment is just a tiny piece of that collaboration. The main experiment is in France.

By not touching it. That’s what the superconducting electromagnets are for.
