Has he had a small stroke recently? He is usually much more coherent and less... old.

@djaddy2011 refining them is not that difficult -- but it can basically be done in two ways. Either cheaply with lots of pollution or expensively with little pollution. China chose the first way and undercut those who chose the second way. If necessary, it won't be hard to reopen refining facilities outside of China. It'll be slightly more expensive than the current cheap rare earths from China, that's all.

He has a whole carem.

GM sold 26 electric cars in Q4. Twenty six. One hummer and 25 Bolts. She led.

@Iden_in_the_Rain VTOL = can ascend in descend really fast. The idea is to fly higher than 10km for lower air resistance. It’s also to allow the use of essentially big parking lots instead of airports, so they can be cheaper and they can be inside cities (or at least closer to cities than airports are now).

@Iden_in_the_Rain he’s not thinking of building another Harrier.

Good one, Rick.

@123321ps High-speed rail in China is very good -- because it's European and Japanese technology. China bought lots of trains in Europe and Japan with the stipulation that production of those trains would gradually move to China and that the sellers would help with that move. It took a lot longer than expected, despite that help. Many more of them had to be produced completely or partly in Europe and Japan than expected. Their domestically designed trains after that are more or less copies of the European and Japanese trains they bought. Plus a few extra things that they have since stolen from Mitsubishi, for example.

@1519Spring it also where IBM used to have a development center. In fact, it’s where the IBM PC was developed 40 years ago. The campus is a marvel of modern architecture.

He started out by saying that that was the current situation: they sent rare earth concentrate to China for refinement. He proceeded to say that that would soon change: they are going to refine it in the US as well.

@djaddy2011 that was a non sequitur on your part. Yes, I watched the video. Yes, I know something about rare earth elements.

I hope the engineers find better jobs elsewhere.
