  1. Optical computing works, it’s just not very compact. It’s damn fast, though. Optical data transfer definitely works — that’s what fiber cables are used for. We also have high speed LANs that use fiber instead of copper. We prefer copper most of the time because it is cheaper and easier to work with, even if it isn’t quite as fast.
