That's just playing to the gallery (something Western politicians and their media do a lot). if it's a false statement it will set negotiations back, if it's a true statement America should make it... while it's pretty clear that Putin and Trump do not like most of the Western media (for good reason) because instead of reporting the news, they often make the news (up) which causes serious problems. Best not to give the media ideas (Trump clearly knows that, so does Putin)... there was a meeting (end of report).
