It is an old story (about a month old); odd that various media outlets are all running it now?! I don't see what Latvia has to do with anything.

@rostbif Even before 2014; foreign corporations (many with close associations to government) were moving in to take control of Ukrainian agriculture (see Oakland Institute reports for more detail); the strong protests, by America, regarding alternatives (now destroyed) to the gas-pipeline through Ukraine indicates that they had a controlling interest and "the Western interests" were giving Ukraine billions (possibly as a financial incentive to join EU/NATO). All of this was putting the concept of a neutral Ukraine (as a buffer between East and West) in doubt; the Western foreign policy makers continued to ignore Russia's objections and warnings; an eight year civil war had already split the country and in early 2022 Russia gave the EU and NATO notice to withdraw their personnel (which they did) then invaded. Since then: Russian troops have largely occupied the "breakaway regions" (those that voted for independence in 2014); the gas-pipeline (previously supplying the EU) has been cut off; the millions of hectares of prime agricultural land and grain loading facilities aren't worth much now, likely the same with the rebuilding contract. It's been over two years now; Russia holds the mainly Russian speaking regions and if Ukraine isn't neutral the war will continue. The Western "corporate takeover" has failed.

@tissuebandit6681 I never heard talk of nukes; but with NATO comes missile bases and Russia was already objecting to ones already on their border. Btw. It's odd this interview with the Pope makes the news (it's about a month old); now various media outlets are all running this story, in concert.

@MeeesterBond17 The Russians are known to be excellent chess players; it's also a country that's technology driven (not debt driven) and their basis for invading Ukraine was to eject the globalists (which they have done). While if it's nuclear war America wants, Russia has more nuclear weapons and superior missile technology. Still the American far right have achieved their objective of denting the European economy; but they've lost the dollar as reserve currency; their national debt is going exponential and their globalist concept appears to have failed. America were in Ukraine to make money; Russia obviously knows that, so they put a stop to this.
