  2. Has Applebaum checked for Reds under the bed, or maybe cares to join us here in the 21st century? America spends a lot on weapons; USA national debt is currently around 100% of GDP; that country doesn't have an NHS, or state-funded education, and private corporations have too much political influence. A growing number of countries reject this economic model. While NATO "interventions to save civilian life" never do and since it was formed to opposed the Warsaw Pact (which no longer exists) it needs an enemy to justify it's own existence. Trying to recruit Ukraine (that compromised Ukraine's neutrality); foreign corporations taking control of so much (state-owned) land likewise; for Russia it was always neutrality, or war. A war of ideas? Why yes and Capitalists don't like the idea of the state owning the: land; buildings and infrastructure (they want to own it). The Capitalists just bought a lot of rubble. Now all the "investors" have are the loans (I doubt will be repaid); they (and NATO) want more public money, Anne is here to explain; but there clearly are better investments, unlucky them. Communism in the US of A? With two right-wing parties sponsored by the same profit seeking groups, a dozen people controlling half the USA wealth... I can't imagine that either.

  3. No corporations tried to buy Ukraine; still fighting for the loans they made (unlikely to be repaid); it is a Russo-Ukrainian conflict (Russia holds Ukraine responsible for allowing this). A lot of public money "invested" in a rather corrupt country; that's been turned to rubble; it's the principle of everybody loses (where the foreign investors lose it all). Yes, Russia is very aggressive; they said they would be; but our leaders don't listen (even to us); they like to talk; but their charity, with our money, isn't getting them elected.

  5. The conflict in Ukraine would then expand... (that being a deceleration of war), some NATO member states (including America) would undoubtedly veto such a provocative move.

I think we need to find some way to get the major powers to collaborate on putting people on Mars... it won't solve hunger and poverty, but it would be worth watching; it's something we can all get behind; before infighting, or a big asteroid, ends proceedings. We need a new frontier! Dinosaurs like Anne Applebaum had their time.

  7. No it's not... Fascism occurs when profit seekers get to write the rules (so they end up owning everything); Communism is where the state owns everything (it's entirely different). Quite a few in America supported the Third Reich (throwing off the chains of sanctions and war reparations); even gave some of the fascists sanctuary after the war. Now we have some who seem to want America to ally with Germany, to go to war with Russia. Ever wonder who these people are? They're called losers.
