I think it was $200 million and the NYC property market was in a slump (banks wouldn't extend credit so NYC technically bankrupt); certainly "plays" the rules; but Trump and Trump plc are different (various bits of Trump plc have filed for chapter 11 (bankruptcy), often settle with shares of Trump plc); don't know if "playing the game" makes him a good businessman, but if he puts the interest of corporations before people or the country then he's not so different from the establishment. Bill seems to have TDS; a lot of politicians are well past retirement age; I'm not with or against Trump (he never calls; never writes), but if people think he's bad then H. Clinton is worse. Have a nice day!

He's a journalist (or tending towards one) Bill Meyer and a few others used to be comedians, now they are too involved in politics; not funny and seem to live in a bubble. .

Maybe the OP is selling bumper stickers? In case anyone hasn't noticed: both main political parties in America are decidedly right-wing; both are sponsored by Wall St and corporations; one reason the corporate media call one party "the left" is simply to occupy the political spectrum. Bill Maher might be what's called a "champagne socialist"; or considered out of touch with "real people"; but what we have seen since the 1970's is a select few directing vast sums of public money their way; while the poor have pretty much zero political representation. If there was a viable "left" in America; it would likely have an National Health Service (NHS); no, or low, student debt and far less homelessness. Bill Mayer seems in favor of socialism for the rich and capitalism for the rest of us; recessions kill a lot of poor people, so calling for one just makes him look a fool. I get the impression that a lot of American's don't know what Marxism is; I'd refer them to Prof Wolff; it's largely about an equitable division of profits and worker collectives. No way are the corporate sponsors of government wanting the CEO to have wages capped to about seven times the lowest worker's wage... so you can't have Marxism! No way.

One problem is there isn't really a "left" (neither main party wants to upset their sponsors and Wall Street funds both); they don't seem to care about the homeless or rising poverty, while next election will be a vote, war or war? (Your choice). It's about a billion to run a Presidential election campaign; these sponsors are not known to be charitable; so I think G Carlin is correct, "it's a rich persons club and we aren't in it". Maybe F Zappa is too? "America is becoming a fascist theocracy". So I don't see much difference between the right and far-right; they both want: money; war and it's making them rich (at our expense). For those that view Trump as bad; H. Clinton was clearly worse (somebody else might explain that to Bill); while the age of some of these politicians is of increasing concern; surely. I blame the msm; possibly "the enemy within"; I'm not buying what they're trying to sell (nothing in it for me and mine). Good news tho' you can be senile and also President (Reagan).

Russell Brand is more "the left" than either party in America or the UK and yes it is rather suspicious that a newspaper and Channel 4 both come out with allegations (of a sexual nature) at the same time against another individual engaged in exposing the hypocrisy in media and blatant corruption in government. While I have no evidence either way regarding Brand and his well publicized sexual antics (Shagger of the Year!? The Sun); I found the Channel 4 presentation of accusations with dubbed voices and dramatic music one that made my skin crawl. It also threatens to prejudice any future court case, this appeal to the "court of public opinion". It's a police matter; one for the courts to decide and there should be stiff penalties for false accusations, as this does not help real victims seek justice. I have little trust in the UK media.

Based, or biased? There is no "left" in American politics; both parties are right-wing; backed by Wall Street and corporations... if there was a "left" America would have an NHS; no student debt and far less homelessness. One party's PR machine likes to call itself the left (to occupy the political spectrum). No way would either support "Occupy Wall St"; it funds them!
