  2. The EU (mainly Polish) hauliers were in dispute (and blockading the border): as they have to pay for permits to operate in the EU and their empty lorries had to queue for inspection, while hauliers from Ukraine (not in the EU) did not. This has been resolved temporarily (until end of March); the complaint being preferential treatment of a non-EU member was unfair competition. Russia would not renew the deal concerning direct shipments from Ukraine, claiming returning vessels were importing weapons. (then they destroyed the port loading facilities) Another problem was the foreign corporations, that had taken control of Ukrainian agriculture, were producing GM crops and using pesticides that other countries won't accept; Ukrainian grain was being rejected; also their heavily industrialized model of production was likely to put farmers in surrounding countries out of business (dumping cheap grain). Then there are also current disputes over the EU removing some subsidies which have farmers "up in arms" in a number of countries. Currently Russia (largest grain producer in world) is supplying low cost, or free grain, to some African countries, but that doesn't help local farmers who can't compete with this. So it seems EU farmers and hauliers aren't going to help Ukraine put them out of business; the foreign Ag companies in Ukraine lost their "investment" and all this turbulence will result in the EU experiencing food and energy price inflation (which I guess was America's plan all along as they have grain and "fracked" LPG to sell).
