@Dan Beech Yes, it might be difficult to find an "unbiased" jury; since the case receive such wide publicity, but with the original verdict requiring all seven jurors to reach a unanimous decision I agree with the OP it seems obvious they have nothing. The right to appeal was denied in the "Sun" case, held in the UK; it is notoriously difficult to prove libel under UK law; the article in question, by Dan Wootton, had the headline: "Gone Potty: How can JK Rowling be 'genuinely happy' casting wife beater Johnny Depp in the new Fantastic Beasts film?". A lot of people had opinions after that; it was at the height of the Me Too and arrest Harvey Weinstein movements, one difference was it was decided by a judge; this time a jury. However this goes from here, the lawyers have made a lot of money already and nobody has said anything about donating to charity. I don't see what grounds there are for an appeal (either); or know where to find seven hermits, I thought the judge handled matters well (but I'm no judge).
