Pardon (right back to 2014). One of over 8,000 pardons from Joe; so much forgiveness there must have been something very hooky going on.
2
No, not guarantees, assurances (which are optional). The wording was chosen very carefully... the UK and USA are not obliged to do anything, it's up to them.
2
No: the Dollar/Rouble mechanism is being avoided, as it attracts sanctions; so there's no supply/demand with which to establish a price point. While food and energy price inflation appears to be happening world-wide; that's why there are so many campaigns for wage increases (to keep up). Russia; China and India are not dictatorships; two are social democracies and one is a single party communist state. (and they are all economic partners). Yes, the EU now buys Indian oil; that they buy from Russia and refine; that means the American plan to separate the EU from relatively cheap Russian commodities has worked; however their control of the gas pipeline through Ukraine no longer matters. Same with their agricultural companies, since the farmland is in a war zone. It's amazing (to me) to see the variety of products in the Russian shops; it wasn't like that in the USSR. As for bananas, that was their symbol for Western capitalism. It's a shame Ukraine sold out to the Western bankers; now it owes them so much money, Ukraine will be forever indebted... Unless Russia kicks them out.

I don't think Trump likes him. Called him a great salesman, who leaves with billions of American money every time he visits and further funding as "a loan" (plus interest).
2
It's partly a translation issue; but also these, often heavily armed, factions in Eastern Europe can slap back (including those in his own grouping). They'll all want their "cut". While if it's true that only around half the funding for Ukraine gets to Ukraine, corruption is endemic and it's all just another nasty game played with our money. He's mafia too.

Fridman is a journalist; not a sympathizer; usually does a pretty good job and is one of the few that can get an interview with both Russian and Ukrainian leaders. While a lot of moral outrage, these days, is fake; the NATO civilian death toll has been horrendous (and now they pretend to care about people??). That's insulting.
1
Yeah... 14th time lucky.

Where did Ukraine get the footage? We send them money and they send us this; another "human interest" story; so now they care about Russians, do they? Pretty sick stuff from UATV...
1
They both speak Russian, as a first language; it's for a Slavic audience and the conflict actually has little to do with Putin, Russia wants the West out and a neutral Ukraine (or else).

Yet he got the job.

China can sell them machinery; while prices for food and energy seem to be rising sharply world-wide; I was never keen on Russian milk (it tastes of cheese). Shops look well stocked; big improvement compared to USSR; I don't see what the fuss is about.
1
Meantime; Western bankers providing loans Ukraine will never be able to pay off gain ownership, they even do this domestically (and they aren't even using their own money to do it).

@davidjohns4745 In diplomatic language, a guarantee and an assurance are not the same thing... the UK and USA did not give guarantees, as cosignatories to the Budapest Memorandum (if they had it would likely be called the "Budapest Treaty"). In any case it was all Soviet stuff under discussion. The UK and USA have promised to look into the matter (that's all); while I doubt they'll be required to cosign further agreements, as they are not honest brokers.
1
@davidjohns4745 Again: diplomatic; legal and scientific terminology often differs from that of "everyday use"; diplomats are paid the "big bucks" to understand the difference between an assurances and a guarantee (which would have necessitated the UK/USA declaring war). Likewise saying "sorry" in court is taken as an admission of guilt and what the media call a theory is often just a hypothesis (not empirically verified). While Ukraine never had their own nuclear weapons; these were Soviet weapons (designed and built by USSR) with encryption codes; these and the Soviet chemical stockpiles in Ukraine were decommissioned by Russia and America; poorly maintained they were becoming dangerous. Ukraine kept nuclear power (& Chernobyl). As for breaching the Budapest Memorandum; you might ask the one with the rebuilding contract who did that (they'll know). The UK/USA have backed Ukraine; a lot of money... we can kiss goodbye. I guess, for all the things Ukraine has done for them over the years...

@davidjohns4745 It's actually the Western "vested interests" and their media making the excuses, regarding the conflict in Ukraine; but these don't stand up to close scrutiny and back in 1994 Ukraine got a pretty good deal (division of Soviet military and commercial assets; gas tariffs from Russia; a port leasing fee and rotting stockpiles cleared). The Budapest Memorandum (1994) was all to do with Soviet assets; while the Minsk agreement (2014) was a neutral Ukraine, or Russia goes to war (non-negotiable)... ... I'm not sure who you mean by "we"; but it's not a good point in history to make any assumptions, it's clear "diplomacy" has failed (nobody's listening). While it seems the UK and USA governments have already been warned (by the Pentagon) why it's a bad idea to fire missiles at Russia (It's an open deceleration of war). Me, I was more of a negotiator; back in Moscow 92', working for Casinos Austria (who advised me not to go... and they work on commission!?). Yes a lot of money seems to have gone missing; while more is found to send to (arguably) the most corrupt country in Eastern Europe, where money doesn't matter. Meanwhile (back at the ranch): the Western economies are riddled with debt; despite media assurances inflation is not 2.2% and there's a storm brewing... have a nice day!

@libertarianbydefault You might need to clarify what you mean by "you people". While I seek clarification on why my government wants to fund the Ukrainian mafia before our pensioners (to keep the backers of two far-right political parties in America happy). They're a bunch of wasters; using our money to reward themselves for failure and we civilians can't afford any more of their "mistakes". While the Chinese diplomat saying, "Don't try to involve us in American power games!" (that's fighting talk).
1
You don't invest in Roubles... lol... that's not how things work at all. You Westerners... that love collecting paper... while America $33 Trillion in debt; they trade in debt.
1
@101wildgoose The American Dollar is treated as an internationally traded commodity; the Russian Rouble is not (because it's not a store of value); while due to sanctions nobody is using the $/Rb mechanism, so the quoted rate of exchange is meaningless. This is all fantasy economics like America being $33 Trillion in debt and still handing out money.
1
Gosh! The shops look so well stocked compared to when Russia was the USSR. I guess capitalism has some uses. While the $/Rb rate is just made up (nobody uses that now). Shame about Ukraine; it owes the Western bankers so much now; like many in the West it will be forever in debt... Unless Russia kicks them out.
1
They both speak Russia, as a first language, it's for a Slavic audience; so your request is rejected.

He's a journalist. It's not his job to have original thoughts... he can ask other people's questions and doesn't have a box. It's the other chap we came to hear; he's got a box.
