It's the process of fracking that is the main problem (not the product); also that fracking companies in America tended to accept government subsidy then mysteriously go bankrupt just before the clean-up costs, leaving millions of gallons of contaminated water, while fracking is only economically viable when gas prices are high and the wells don't last long.

  2.  @timsmith2279  Tidal power (works twice a day) might be the way forward for Scotland, but it would require: massive state investment; getting around the oil lobby and addressing environmental concerns if set up in estuaries, or maintenance if at sea. Some councils here are installing solar panels on council houses, which will take load of the grid; using off peak power, while "power storage" remains a problem worth solving for the Winter months. Nuclear fission is fine until something goes wrong, the UK has already had one "meltdown" in 1957 plus a few discharges that were hushed up. If only someone could design a pretty windmill...
