  2. @Nemesis The actions of the SNP might look childish to you, but remember the government shortened debating time on the issue of the UK leaving the EU; so the debate the previous night ended before it reached the issue of Scotland. PM May claims this was the fault of Labour, but that isn't exactly true (the government clearly want to rush this through); May claims that powers will be given to Scotland after the UK leaves, but remember there was a previous promise of "substantial new powers for Scotland (by Cameron and some "New" Labour grandees)... then extended to all UK countries, but then they got delayed (which resulted in Scottish Labour being decimated .... as they had nothing to show the Scottish electorate) then watered down to powers with strings attached or open to being vetoed by Westminster ... so unfortunately for May her verbal assurance isn't worth the paper it's written on. At this point the SNP and Scotland have had no voice in the debate and so far it does look like a power grab by Westminster. Blackford then employed a rather archaic piece of legislation (not allowed on a Friday, unless the speaker permits it). For reasons of politeness he could have informed the speaker that this motion was a possibility, but he didn't and the motion requires a quorum (min 40 members) be formed and the matter be resolved then and there. The speaker then gave Blackford an option, to enact the motion now or at the end of PM's question time. He chose now and then the speaker removed that option and declared if would be dealt with at the end. It is possible that both Tory and Labour members might withdraw at the end and a quorum could not be formed (unlikely, but possible). The mistake here (as I see it; apart from the government rushing through important legislation (presumably for their political convenience) is that Scotland has had no voice so far and by suspending Blackford (for blocking the floor) his motion will not proceed. Perhaps you don't recognise how insulting this is; when the representatives of an entire nation are being prevented from debating issues key to them. It seems the SNP are just in the role of spectators as Westminster repatriates all the powers from the EU and then we only have a verbal assurance that it won't hang on to each and every one. It might have been different if Cameron hadn't lied (plus wasting £9.3 million on his leaflet campaign; or that Hague hadn't played political games that made New Labour and his promises look insubstantial, but it looks like a case of once bitten twice shy and May trying to blame Labour for the lack of debating time does not look honest to me. I believe the SNP were left no choice ... there is no reason for them to be there as they are being ignored. I hope this puts the events that occurred in a clearer perspective and if you want more info on Tory promises ask the Libdems. May and her administration are plying games here; that's got to stop.
