  2. @J4 It's not condescending to state a fact; 17.4 million voters answered "leave" to the following question, "Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union?"; less voted "remain" so the referendum result is that the United Kingdom leaves the European Union. This is something Emily Thornberry doesn't seem to understand and I would like to know why? A national referendum is pretty much the key-stone of democracy; it's when the people of a country decide which direction the country (in this case four) will take ... and it's not for politicians to tell the people they are wrong; the people are telling them what to do. A referendum is usually: called concerning a divisive issue; it's a binary choice and the question made as clear as possible. Those calling for a second referendum with the same question do not respect democracy, because from then on every referendum would have to be best of three. I don't see any mention of a deal on the ballot paper ... and that's another thing about referendum results; it's the first order of business, otherwise the government must be replaced. The only deal the EU will accept comes in black and costs £39,000,000,000 ... all other talk about deals is worthless. The Blarites seem to have managed to take "no deal" out as an option (looks like they are happy to ruin the credibility of Labour to get what they want ... it would have to be the EU deal then?!) In short; I'm sure there are plenty of ways for politicians to put their interests before that of a national referendum; but then we don't have democracy. At the moment they are making a mockery of it and us. People like Thornberry are driving people away from Labour; I sometimes wonder if it's intentional? You do not ask the people; then muck about, because that's a direct insult.
