  1. Well it certainly wasn't a good look (it was more of a war rally) and it didn't really achieve anything. When superpowers collide, it's probably best avoided; or you can get draw in. It's an easy mistake to make that a lot of countries have made before. It would help if governments put the interests of their people first, it's a real problem when they don't.

  2. I get the impression that he was given assurances by America, through Boris Johnson of the UK, (possibly the EU too); that they would fully back him if he called Russia's "bluff". Now he's discovering that: assurances aren't the same as guarantees; after Libya and Syria, Russia won't back down and the Western oligarchs really just wanted to own Ukraine.

  3. Nobody is going to win (it's how much all involved can afford to lose); Ukraine is next to Russia (America is far away) and NATO shouldn't be in Ukraine (officially). Russia is a nuclear superpower that is technologically driven; America is a nuclear superpower that is debt driven... neither really want a nuclear war, but there is that possibility.

  4.  @user-iu5vc5ki8p  I think what you wrote sums things up pretty well. Also the Western interests always seem to aim for money; while Russia's aim seems to be to put some distance between Russia and them. Totally different objectives.
