  3. ​ @jordan31176  Not really the same thing. That's like saying Coca Cola pays me to buy their products when I'm really just buying their product because I see an ad on TV. You're basically saying Coca Cola shouldn't advertise to me to make me aware of their product, causing me to never hear of it. It would be ideal if someone could watch every movie from a year. Unfortunately, no one has close to that amount of free time. Academy members work for a living too. Do you have time to watch over 500 films each year on top of everything else? No you don't.

  17. ​ @bandgeek89  All those movies played, but only Whiplash played in competition like Honey Boy. Little Miss Sunshine, Boyhood, Get Out? They already had distributors. Playing those movies at Sundance was a way to build hype.

  18.  @bandgeek89  Oscar bait means its made to pander to the Academy. Honey Boy had no distributor when it was completed. How could it have been made for Oscars if they didn't know it was gonna be picked up for the Academy to see?
