  4. Philip Alvarez I realize there have been movies with twists before The Sixth Sense. Everyone's seen The Empire Strikes Back. And then there are Vertigo and Psycho. But after The Sixth Sense, there were so many more movies with plot twists than before. So I think it did indeed start the trend.
