The best writing usually goes to movies with creativity and/or really good lines. Fun movies dont always focus on lighting, so it probably wont get cinematography. Best production design usually goes to movies that take place in the early to mid 1900s or ones that take place in a fantasy world. If the fun movies have action scenes that are edited in a way which you dont know whats happening (the beginning of Civil War with Black Widow for example), it wont get best editing. What the fun movies usually have a chance in are costume design, makeup, sound mixing, sound editing and visual effects.

He beefs up and gets those gold teeth cover things (whatever the fuck they are) to cover up who he is on the inside, which people could see when he was a kid. He becomes a drug dealer most likely because people didn't treat Juan bad, and they treated Chiron bad when he was a good kid. But thats not the definitive answer. Things like the transition from Chiron to Black are really all up to interpretation. Every single event doesnt need to be set in stone, saying that "it only happened one way (this way)" for you to enjoy it. Its not history. Its choose your own adventure. And its not exactly a casting fail. They intentionally casted someone who looked like Trevante Rhodes.

  197. Fross09 Anyhow, I think Moonlight is a great movie because it does a great job developing Chiron's character. Since the movie is only about Chiron's experience, the side characters are developed well too, but to a t. They develop the other characters to the point in which we fully understand how they effect Chiron's life, but not any more than that since the movie isn't about them. The acting is also very well done. Everyone pulls their weight so well that I was shocked that this didnt win the SAG Ensemble award. Even the child actors were able to match the acting abilities of their adult costars, which is so hard to pull off. The cinematography is very well done. The lighting really compliments the setting and many of the camera movements were very impressive. One of my only problems with the movie has to do with one tracking shot when Little is running near the beginning. The camera shakes so much in the shot that it becomes dizzying. Unavoidable, but effective in a bad way nonetheless. The music (both score and songs) is extremely well done. Its put into all the right places (which might have to do with Sound Editing...?) and adds to the effectiveness of the scenes. Finally, the writing is probably the best part about it. When it wants to tell the audience information, it doesnt beat them over the head with it. Lines of dialogue are thrown around that is supposed to imply the information that the filmmakers want to share. Such as when Chiron's mom is talking about not seeing Teresa since the funeral. We assume she means Juan's funeral. Much better than any alternative. Those are the primary reasons. I didnt dive deep into why i liked every single thing. There are more reasons why i like all of those aspects, but I dont know how to express those reasons effectively.

  259. Nope. Not many superhero movies are actual great movies. Most of them are fine. That being said, Suicide Squad was one of the worst superhero movies ever made. The writing was cringy, the editing was choppy, the cinematography was bland, etc. You only like it because of the brand.

  261. Draco Malfoy seems like you're basing the percentage of people that liked it/didn't like it on people who are proven to like comic book movies. I, for example, like movies if they're good movies. I don't look at super hero movies and say "that was a good super hero movie." I look at super hero movies and say "that was a fun action movie." The story was kinda shit. Of course there are plot holes in most of these super hero movies, but SS had so many it was too difficult to ignore. The makeup was alright. The visual effects were pretty good, but some of the characters made via visual effects (the big orange guy or whatnot) were horribly designed.

You go from "I've seen all these" to "doesn't deserve Best Picture" which is what I got pissed about. Who are you to say that the Academy was wrong in choosing that movie that they obviously liked (or just wanted to win because of gay and black shit, which I really hope isn't true but might as well be) just because you didn't think it was up to snuff? First of all, it's just the Academy. An award doesn't have an opinion. Dances with Wolves is not loved by the Academy because it's boring. They didn't think it was boring. I also do not think it was boring. It was long, and it had a slow pace (not a bad thing, which needs to be said if you were to ignorantly interject me). And it worked so well if you watch the movie with actual care about forming an accurate opinion. Same thing with The King's Speech.
