  3. Theresa Mahfood you have one single source that claims Barnum was a good man. You believe that one source over the numerous sources that say otherwise? Are you sure that the biography didn't have some creative licence just as the movie did?

  4. Theresa Mahfood not exactly the point I made. No one would call a critic's opinion into question if they trashed a film about Hitler that made him out to be something he wasn't - a good guy. PT Barnum wasn't as bad as Hitler, but he wasn't a saint either. He abused the animals (or didnt care to prevent anyone from doing such), he called his troupe "freaks". To capitalize off that man by saying he is a saint who cared about the crew in his circus gives the critics reason to criticize that decision.

  45. I don't think that's how the Academy works... it's all about the campaign for barely talked about movies. Shitty movies that had shitty reviews like The Blind Side and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close got nominated for Oscars because their campaign managers and producers are geniuses.

  48. I'll give it to Charlize. She was a badass. But she wasn't deserving of an Oscar. It would be like saying Mickey Rourke deserved an Oscar nomination for Sin City. And if we're talking about subdued badasses (like Charlize) it's like saying Denzel Washington deserved a nomination for The Equalizer.
