@drewarnold6741 "Disruption of the workforce?" I see robots doing menial tasks, I don't see any careers in jeopardy. If you're worried about humans being accidentally grabbed, don't. They aren't allowed in the same room with dangerous equipment. We've had those rules for years now. When humans enter the room, all the machines shut off. You're a technologist and you don't know this?

@drewarnold6741 Sorry, your ignorance isn't my problem. You can read about what already exists, or you can watch some videos or something. But yeah, your killer robot factory worker fantasy is a fantasy. "Technologist." You got a degree that says you're smart?

@Daan Jordens He's acting like an expert because of his experience in an unrelated field. I can call him out on that. That's not "childish" or "picking on" anyone. That's calling out someone's bullshit. There are fully automated factories where humans aren't allowed on the floor. Once humans are sensed entering the facility, all machines shut down. It's called "lights-out" manufacturing. You can google it yourself. I did. Not saying you won't be killed by robots, but if you do it's because the robots were designed to kill you.

@Daan Jordens I can't pretend to know the future. As usual there's reason to both hope and fear. For me, stuff like this will probably lead to my retirement, where I could learn something new. Maybe I'll get stuffed into a laundry machine by a maid-bot. I'll take my chances ;)

@Daan Jordens It's not going away, so we're not going to benefit from rethinking. Robots and limited AI already do many things better than we could ever hope. As usual, production and GDP will continue to go up, even without many people having jobs. We were already at the point where the jobs you see here weren't providing living wages (despite making some people rich), so that's the discussion we need to be having. Chaining people to useless jobs to enhance their self-worth isn't the most effective use of resources in my opinion. What if you had the time to study what you want, do what you want and volunteer when and where you want? Would you spend your life on the couch?
